Thalli has fifteen minutes and twenty-three seconds left to live. The toxic gas that will complete her annihilation is invading her bloodstream. But she is not afraid.

Thalli is different than others in The State. She feels things. She asks questions. And in the State, this is not tolerated. The Ten scientists who survived the nuclear war that destroyed the world above believe that emotion was at the core of what went wrong—and they have genetically removed it from the citizens they have since created. Thalli has kept her malformation secret from those who have monitored her for most of her life, but when she receives an ancient piece of music to record as her community’s assigned musician, she can no longer keep her emotions secreted away.

Seen as a threat to the harmony of her Pod, Thalli is taken to the Scientists for immediate annihilation. But before that can happen, Berk—her former Pod mate who is being groomed as a Scientist—steps in and persuades the Scientists to keep Thalli alive as a test subject.

The more time she spends in the Scientist’s Pod, the clearer it becomes that things are not as simple as she was programmed to believe. She hears stories of a Designer—stories that fill her mind with more questions: Who can she trust? What is this emotion called love? And what if she isn’t just an anomaly, but part of a greater design?

About the Author
When Krista McGee isn't living in fictional worlds of her own creation, she lives in Tampa and spends her days as a wife, mom, teacher, and coffee snob. She is also the author of Anomaly, First Date, Starring Me, and Right Where I Belong.

In a world rules by silence and no religion of ANY KIND. People live in pods that are underground. This is where we start our story. I really loved this book!  And I think that is saying something since I've been pagan for over 20 years. I never knew that a mix of Teen, Dystopian, and Christian all together could work so well! So if you think you won't like it because its Christian. You are so wrong and should give it a try!

Thalli is a girl whom is an anomaly. She has already seen one of her friends taken away never to be seen again. So when it happens to her she decides to fight back. But, of course she is over powered and taken for annihilation. But there she meets Berk. The boy whom saves her life by postponing her death. And in the underbelly of the pods she finds something else that will forever change her.

The one thing I do understand is the scientist eradicating all religion in the pods. I understand their thought process thinking if they get rid of it that they will all be better off. But I also believe that they are wrong. Yes, many wars have been fought and even more have died/been murdered in the name of a god. But, faith/religion also gives you hope for a better future. It brings you something to believe in when there is nothing but darkness. For in darkness there is light! And that light is called Hope!

Ps: I hope that I am lucky enough to get a copy of book two!

Welcome to the campaign page for Tracie Peterson's newest book in the Land of the Shining Water series, The Quarryman's Bride. Tracie is celebrating with a "True Love" $200 Anthropologies

Emmalyne Knox and Tavin MacLachlan were destined to be together...until the tragic deaths of Emmalyne's youngest sisters. Family tradition mandates that the youngest daughter should remain single to care for her parents in their old age, and now that daughter is Emmalyne. Her father unyielding, Emmalyne surrenders to her duty, heartbroken. Tavin leaves town, equally devastated.

Years later, Emmalyne's family moves, and she and Tavin meet again. Their feelings for each other are as strong as ever, but their painful past and Emmalyne's father still stand between them. Soon both families are in the midst of the growing conflict rising between the workers at the granite quarry that Tavin's father owns and operates. When a series of near-fatal accidents occur, Tavin must figure out who is behind the attacks before someone gets killed.

Bound by obligation, yet yearning for a future together, can Emmalyne and Tavin dare to dream that God could heal a decade-long wound and change the hearts of those who would stand in the way of true love?

This one kind of reminds me of an old movie called Anne of Green Gables.  Where it took three movies for them to finally get together.  I have a special place for Historical Romances and this one doesnt disappoint.  It is a sweet story that starts with a question:  What would you do if honoring your parents meant sacrificing your own heart's desire?  Now I think in this day and age that this is a question that would get slapped in the face!  But back then you pretty much did what your parents wanted. This one had a wonderful twisting plot involving a potential rival for Emmalyne’s affections. I love that the author doesnt fake details!  She is known for her research and historical detail and that certainly plays a huge part in this book! This book will suck you back in time to the 19th century.

Lara Joyner has seen the signs in the direction the leaves blow, in the patterns made by the clouds at dawn, in her readings of the Tarot, and in the answers to her prayers. Her son Dale is the second coming of Christ. While that makes her responsibilities overwhelming, she can fail neither her son nor humanity. But to sit on the throne next to the Almighty will be her reward. Once Dale's true identity is revealed, Lara will forever be known as the mother of God. Dale is not quite certain what it might mean to be Jesus, but he knows that if he at least goes through the motions, he can keep his mother from hearing the voices, and, perhaps, protect himself and his younger brother Louis from danger. Incarnate follows Lara and her sons as she attempts to have him perform miracles. If he could only realize his power, she knows his destiny and hers. Their world turned upside down by their mother's hallucinations, Dale and Louis try to make sense of what is happening and survive a life of mysterious dangers. Meanwhile, their father and older sister frantically search for the two boys to bring them to safety. A psychological study, Incarnate is a story of how delusion overpowers reason and how the resilience of youth can persevere.

{Book Tour} The End Was Not the End

Heroes prevail... usually. You sit close to a campfire, depending on its faint, flickering light to ward off the darkness. Yet the fire cannot hold back dark memories, thoughts of your fallen kingdom, of monsters across the land, of magic gone awry. Around fires like yours are seated other travelers, refugees from catastrophes none dare mention. Kings and queens huddle shoulder to shoulder with peasants, wizards share scraps with slaves, and each wishes only to be saved. Some will be lucky, for heroes yet remain in their lands. For others, hope was not among the provisions stuffed into a pack when fleeing home. Eventually the silence of the night grows too heavy, and someone speaks. They tell a tale of loss, of foolish pride and tragic mistake. With bravery stoked by company, others speak up, each sharing their own sorrows. Before long, there are enough tales to fill a volume. The conversations continue through the night, and by the time dawn has filtered through the gnarled tree limbs, journeys must continue, and one by one, the strangers trudge away. Their worlds may have ended, but they have survived another night. They will continue on, seeking to rebuild upon the ruins of great dreams. Their stories linger upon the air, drifting into time like the smoke from their extinguished fires, fed only by faint embers. This book contains eleven stories set in worlds where an apocalypse has already come, but the characters you'll read about aren't quite ready for the end.

This one was wonderful.
With 11 shot stores all where the end has already happened this book will take you on the ride of your life! 4 Stars

The Offering
From bestselling author Angela Hunt, the heart-wrenching story of a young mother who unknowingly gave away her own child after serving as a surrogate for a childless couple.
After growing up as an only child, Amanda Lisandra wants a big family. But since she and her soldier husband can’t afford to have more children right away, Mandy decides to earn money as a gestational carrier for a childless couple. She loves being pregnant, and while carrying the child she dreams of having her own son and maybe another daughter…
Just when the nearly perfect pregnancy is about to conclude, unexpected tragedy enters Mandy’s world and leaves her reeling. Devastated by grief, she surrenders the child she was carrying and struggles to regain her emotional equilibrium.
Two years later she studies a photograph of the baby she bore and wonders if the unthinkable has happened—could she have inadvertently given away her own biological child? Over the next few months Mandy struggles to decide between the desires of her grief-stricken heart and what’s best for the little boy she has never known.

This one hit close to home.  I had offered to be a carrier for a close friend of mine as she was unable to carry her own child.  I however ended up not having to go through it.  (she ended up getting pregnant YIPPY) I dont know what I would have done if something like this ever happened to me.  From loosing her husband to finding out that the child she carried might be hers.  This story is a roller coaster of feelings, wants, and dreams.   Two years after loosing her husband she sees a picture of the boy she carried and he looks like her husband and daughter.  The real question of this book is if you found you gave up one of your own children what would you do?  Would you rip him from the only family he ever knew or could you live with yourself with never knowing him?

You should have a box of tissues near by for this book!

The Rules for DisappearingShe’s been six different people in six different places: Madeline in Ohio, Isabelle in Missouri, Olivia in Kentucky . . . But now that she’s been transplanted to rural Louisiana, she has decided that this fake identity will be her last.

Witness Protection has taken nearly everything from her. But for now, they’ve given her a new name, Megan Rose Jones, and a horrible hair color. For the past eight months, Meg has begged her father to answer one question: What on earth did he do – or see – that landed them in this god-awful mess? Meg has just about had it with all the Suits’ rules — and her dad’s silence. If he won’t help, it’s time she got some answers for herself.

But Meg isn’t counting on Ethan Landry, an adorable Louisiana farm boy who’s too smart for his own good. He knows Meg is hiding something big. And it just might get both of them killed. As they embark on a perilous journey to free her family once and for all, Meg discovers that there’s only one rule that really matters — survival.

This one was great!  I had just read Shadowland and hated it so this one was so much better.  The author did her homework!  This one will so not disappoint you! Ok so Meg is a girl whose family is hiding for reasons that Meg doesnt know. And like me she was uprooted a lot to move to new places.  I know how she felt the longest ive ever lived in once place was 5 years. So with an alcoholic mother and a father that is so closed off Meg really just wants to find out why they have to hide.  So enter Ethan and that is when Meg really ends up getting into more than she bargained for.

I LOVE Starbucks’ White Mocha Latte and Mountain Dew, (but not together). I have a lead foot so I set cruise control when I drive, even in 25 MPH zones. I almost never win when I play Angry Birds, but have my 8 year old close, so he can clear the hard levels for me. I grew up on a farm and am opposed to eating fresh chicken (not opposed to meat - just opposed to any meat that was alive a few hours before lunch). I am a huge fan of the show, Big Bang Theory, on CBS. I have a stray cat that I feed every night and morning but she’s never let me get closer than within 3 feet of her – I keep thinking eventually I’ll wear her down and she’ll let me pet her. I share my life with two fantastic sons, three rotten dogs and a husband that I adore.

One Shot Away: A Wrestling Story by T. Glen Coughlin

About T. Glen Coughlin

Coughlin’s first novel, The Hero of New York, was finished when he was 23 years old and explored the dark side of the middle class suburban dream. New York Times reviewer, Dennis Smith (1986) wrote, “The Hero of New York is solid tough-guy entertainment, and Mr. Coughlin’s descriptions can be hilarious.”

Coughlin’s second novel, Steady Eddie, is a coming-of-age story set in Long Island, New York in 1977. George Needham wrote “Coughlin neatly captures a person’s essence in the simplest gesture, but each character is drawn with sympathy and wit, even when the characters themselves lack these attributes. A fine novel.”

Coughlin has published short stories in Doubletake Magazine, the South Dakota Review[3] and DUCTS, an on-line magazine. His story, “The Grief Committee” was analyzed in The Politics of Mourning: Grief Management in a Cross-Cultural Fiction.[5] Coughlin”s poetry has appeared in The Dead Mule – School of Southern Literature and Hanging Moss Journal.

In 2012, Coughlin published his first YA novel, One Shot Away, A Wrestling Story, Harpercollins. The novel is the story of three high school wrestlers trying to balance their personal lives, family conflicts and maintain their weight class on the Varsity Squad.

One Shot Away coverAbout One Shot Away

It’s senior year and the last season for Diggy, Jimmy, and Trevor on the Molly Pitcher High School varsity wrestling team. And they all want the same thing: to win.

But Diggy’s got to compete with his older brother’s legacy, and now he’s in danger of losing his spot to newcomer Trevor. Jimmy’s got the cops after him, and a girlfriend who looks down on him. Then Diggy does the unthinkable—he betrays a teammate. Can the team forgive him? And can he forgive himself?

Experience the pressure with Diggy, Jimmy, and Trevor as the stakes rise and loyalties splinter. They’ve got just one shot to make weight and get onto the mat. But pinning your opponent is about more than just winning.

My Review for One Shot Away 4 Stars

Ok so I was kinda glad that this book didnt have much wrestling in it.  I don't really know much (ok ANYTHING) about it. This book was in three POVs which was pretty easy to understand.  It was done very well!  This book is filled with these teens finding their way learning lessons that change their lives.  This book was very good and wasn't boring at all. I think this one will really bring in the boys which if you ask me they need some books to read.  With most books being from a Girl POV this book was a breath of fresh air!

Guest Post:

T. Glen Coughlin, One Shot Away
Origins of the Novel:
I became interested in wrestling when my son, Tom, joined his high school wrestling team.  He was a 99 pound freshman and wrestled 103, under the former weight classes.  He had a tough first year and finished the season 5 and 5.
Tom fell in love with the sport.  He’d come home from grueling practices, ready to show me what he’d learned.  He recognized that he was years behind his competition, as many wrestlers hit the mat at 7 years old.  My son attended wrestling camps and joined the town’s wrestling club.  The work he put in at camps and practices gave him a good shot at breaking into his high school’s varsity line-up during his senior year. He put on some muscle and size, won a few JV tournaments and was wrestling 135.
Senior year, my son was ready to be a varsity wrestler.  He had trained for three years.  The only problem was every weight on the varsity team was filled.  He challenged the 135 pound wrestler to a wrestle-off.  My son lost in a close match, 5 to 2.  The loss meant he would not have a starting position.  There were no seniors on the JV team, so in effect.  The only option he had was to be a backup wrestler on the varsity team.
After the wrestle off, we went home.  The years of training, practice, camps, traveling, and devotion to a sport that had molded him into a physically and mentally strong young man, brought tears to his eyes. He told me he was sorry that he didn’t win.  He talked about quitting the team.  I told him it was okay. I told him I was proud of him no matter what. I said he was a champion.
He decided to stick out the season. On the opening day, he sat in the bleachers, dressed out in his singlet and sweats.  I always carried a notebook with me.  I opened it and wrote the first chapter of One Shot Away, A Wrestling Story.  My character, Trevor Crow, was modeled after my son’s experiences.
Wrestling gave my son self-worth, confidence, and values. He learned the rewards of hard work and the ache of physical limitations. The sport gave him a sense of belonging. The word “proud,” hardly describes my feelings for him.
Wrestling is more than a sport. It’s a way of life. If a wrestler wants to be proficient on the mat, he can not stop wrestling when the season ends. He has to be dedicated all year long.  It separates the good wrestlers from the great ones.
And, my son did get his shot on varsity after a wrestler left the team.  He had a great season!
